Winter Sleep
una intensa y larguísima película (195 minutos) inspirada en varios relatos de Anton Chejov y que se desarrolla en unos paisajes nevados... y siempre me es tan hilarante (se me permita la palabra) recordarlo, pensar en sus últimas palabras: "hace mucho tiempo que no bebo champán"

Como la nieve cae aquí,
nieva también dentro de mí.
(Verlaine con nieve, ¿no es así?)
De ti me acuerdo —ya sin ti.
¿A qué llorar, me digo yo,
por quien no llora ni lloró?
Si estuve escrito, me borró,
si ardí un instante, me apagó.
Caiga la nieve, está muy bien.
Mas no por eso va Guillén
a entristecerse si no hay quien
del mismo mal muera también.
Literatura, en realidad,
nimia de toda nimiedad.
¿Que está nevando en la ciudad?
Al fin y al cabo es la verdad.

Jane Campion (chair of the jury): "We had a discussion, but we don't know precisely who voted for who, because it was a secret ballot with a majority of five votes. There were lots of us and we liked lots of films, but we didn't have enough awards to go round, so we debated it for longer. When I read the synopsis of Winter Sleep [+] and saw how long it was, I was a bit scared. But the film has such a wonderful pace that I was captivated. It's a very masterful, sophisticated and intelligent film, and that, among other reasons, is why it was awarded the Palme d'Or. As for The Wonders [+], we really liked the character of the young girl, who was just like life itself, as she's so real. This film has many layers and builds up its own world.”
